Things that were lost here because of technical problems:

I lost articles on:

Instant Runoff Voting as an alternative to the Electoral College as a way of encouraging more parties to become active in US politics. The electoral system as it is now, discourages parties beyond the two major ones and is, by design, structured to keep control of the government in the hands of an elite few. This may have made sense in the time of the Founding fathers, but now is more of a barrier to open democracy than anything else.

Alternative energy including the idea, from an article at The Nation, that if Big Energy didn't get its federal subsidies, their cost would go up and alternative energies would be favorably competitive with Coal, Oil, Nuclear, and Gas.

An article on how Toyota has succeeded in developing viable hybrid automotive technology and is making a profit on it. American car makers, in contrast, have been trying to avoid hybrid technology in favor of waiting, then going straight to a Hydrogen Economy once the technology is improved. I did some hypothesizing on why the Car Makers would be hesitant to accept technology that works - and is wanted by consumers. The article mentioned how Ford is going to license Toyota's technology rather than develop its own.

Reader Jay Stiles, contributed a terrific article on how there is actually more material available to make biofuels with than one might realize. He noted that due to the Mad Cow scare, there is more scrap fat available than ever that could be made into biofuel, since it won't be used to make cattle feed anymore.

I will do what I can to find the original text from these, to try to re build some original content.

If YOU have an idea for Something Better, send it to the email link on the right, and we can try to share it here.

Regards,

Universal
